Assignment #4 – question 2

2. This is a multi-part question. Please create a visual post for your blog on a topic specific to your business and answer the questions below. This involves critical thinking. What is important to your business and visitors? The image must be the focal point of the post telling the story or conveying a point. You may include multiple images. The goal is to visually convey a message with minimal text. Please pay attention to what was discussed in class. Ensure that you include a link to the blog post in your answer. Do not forget that this needs to be included in your hardcopy. I am marking what you hand in with your hardcopy but also need to see the digital version on your blog. If it is not online for me to view (in addition to the hardcopy), I cannot mark this question. (4 Marks)

a) Why did you choose the specific image(s)? (3 Marks)

I chose this image to invoke emotion, spark curiosity, and because it’s relatable. Women of all ages all over the world can relate to this exact moment. My intention is that this image will be associated with the pain they’ve endured during a period and decide to take action knowing that does not have to be them. As we’ve previously discussed in class, viewers are more likely to be engaged with something that will help them avoid pain. Therefore, because this image is very direct and to the point, my target audience will immediately know exactly what this woman is going through because they have been in this exact position before. It is very simple to understand, and it is so relatable that it will immediately grab the attention of my viewers and spark a sense of curiosity to get them to want to know more. Furthermore, also previously discussed in class – women are much more likely to share something they’ve come across on social media if they can relate to it on a personal level.

I chose this image to spark a sense of curiosity from my audience. It gives my target audience the initial spark needed to catch their attention. The small details like her face, the crinkles in her forehead due to the pain, her hands being on her stomach – they all signal to the viewer what she’s feeling. This is meant to grab the attention of the audience so that once they get to the details of the copy included in the image, they will have everything they need to guide them to the next steps and increase their curiosity levels.

Lastly, I chose this image to invoke emotion. As mentioned above, women can relate to this pain and know the exact feeling that the girl in the photo is feeling and when you trigger an emotion it actually increases the chance of having a long-term memorable impression on the viewer. People are most likely to associate this specific visual with a negative emotion, but no matter what emotion viewers may feel when they see this image, invoking emotion through an ad is a strategic tactic that has been proven to make a longer-lasting impression on the viewer.

b) Explain in detail why the image(s) was beneficial for the post. (3 Marks)

It is common for women to experience severe period cramps and think it’s normal. However, too many women don’t know that it’s not. Using this visual automatically gives my audience a storyline to follow, and implies what I’m referring to, instead of me having to explain the situation represented in the visual using words. It also allows for my audience to intake the information faster and create a full story in their head.

One of my main goals is to teach women about their bodies and the menstrual cycle; this image allows me to capture and perfectly embody a feeling we go through weekly in order to educate my viewers. Tracking their menstrual cycles using a TrackHER Calendar can help them nourish their body in the proper way in order to avoid feeling the way the visual shows. The visual along with the copy in this post not only tells but shows them exactly what they can avoid if they were to begin tracking their menstrual cycles with a TrackHER Calendar.

Using this image for this post will help guide consumers to my website to find out more information by sparking a sense of curiosity. As mentioned above, women often tend to share things that they can relate to on a personal level, so the visual is meant to capture the audience’s attention and embody a familiar feeling. The copy is meant to work with the visual to guide them to my website, where they will find everything they need to end up purchasing a TrackHER Calendar.
